Two senior members of the LGPS Central Limited Investment team have joined social mobility charity upReach’s “Investment Springboard” programme, which helps investment professionals mentor university students from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Chief Investment Officer, Gordon Ross, and Head of Private Markets, Ian Brown, will work with students looking to take their first steps in an investments career via the Diversity Project-backed campaign.
Creating an inclusive environment
The move is part of a wider drive by the Company to create an inclusive and diverse working environment for those in the investment profession.
Gordon said: “Diversity and inclusion come in all forms, and we’re proud to support this initiative as part of our diversity and inclusion agenda. This is a chance to make a real difference to those who may not have had the same opportunities that others around them have been fortunate enough to enjoy.”
Ian added: “It’s fantastic that we’re reaching talented people who might otherwise find it difficult to map a route into organisations such as LGPS Central Limited. Diversity at a senior management level starts with bringing people into your organisation from diverse backgrounds and there is evidence that diverse groups make better decisions than homogenous groups.”
Gordon and Ian will help their mentees in a number of ways, such as support with their CVs, job applications, interviews and skills development.
Growing a diverse workforce
Harj Kaur, Head of HR at LGPS Central Limited, is the Company’s Diversity Project Steering Group lead.
Harj commented: “Overseeing diversity and inclusion initiatives at the Company, I’m keen for professionals within the Business to get involved as much as possible, helping to grow a diverse and inclusive workforce. Our involvement in this initiative will support the recruitment of our second cohort of graduates for 2021/22 later this year, and I’m hoping we can attract applications from diverse groups across the region.”
